Born in Sunderland in 1962, Gavin Watson lives and works in rural Northumberland. He is inspired by the region, its history and the rich variety of wildlife inhabiting its landscape. His paintings explore the relationship between human and animal, and the internal and external worlds they share. These playful, dreamlike and multi-layered paintings are said to ‘perfectly capture the essence of both beast and man’.
Gavin has exhibited his work in New York, with Cricket Hill Associates Gallery and has regularly been selected for the BP National Portrait award. He is currently represented in London by the Jonathan Cooper, Park Walk Gallery. His work is in private collections in North America, Europe and the UK.
