This is an extremely vigorous show.

The earliest painting in this exhibition is dated 1957, and the latest works by the extant contemporaries are fresh, unseen paintings from 2008/9.

Thus the date span of the exhibits is over fifty years, pitching us back to when most cars were black in the mid-1950s.

Abstract painting (by British born artists) emerged in Britain before the World War II but it was a generation of artists emerging from WWII service who brought the abstract movement strongly forward to become synonymous with the iconic 1960s.

The examples in this show are truly luscious, vintage pieces – consummate in both their compositional conception as well as their execution – comparable to the very best of the period.
