José Escofet was born near Barcelona in 1930, and spent much of his early
career working as a graphic designer whilst painting 'fine art' in his own time.
He moved to England with his British wife and three children in 1979. The
softness of the northern light brought about a substantial change in his work.
With a deep awareness of both Spanish and Dutch still-life and flower painting
from earlier centuries, Escofet progressed from the late 1980's into a highly
productive period painting impressively refined, sophisticated flower subjects
of great richness. He has had numerous solo exhibitions in both London and
New York, and his work is in many important Private collections in the USA
and Europe. This exhibition includes some twenty works which can only be
described as world class.
